Glentel Inc. Joins Fight Against Cancer

Vancouver, BC (July 15) Burnaby-based national mobile phone retailer and wireless solutions provider, GLENTEL Inc. announces a multi-year partnership with the Canadian Cancer Society, BC and Yukon Division (CCS). The affiliation will bring public awareness to 12 different cancers over the next 3 years with an emphasis on prevention.

GLENTEL will use a four-tiered approach of corporate donation, employee giving, customer fundraising and supplier involvement, to generate $500,000 per year. In an effort to expand their philanthropic interests and empower their employees to be proactive with their own health, GLENTEL will also give back by using CCS information and tools in a tangible way to educate staff, customers and partners about a different cancer each quarter, with an emphasis on early detection and screening.

“In these times of economic uncertainty, this financial commitment is both generous and visionary,” explains Barbara Kaminsky CEO of the Canadian Cancer Society, BC and Yukon. “This partnership will have a significant impact on our fight against cancer as we will not only have additional funds to support research, but it will allow us to provide valuable information about cancer prevention.”

“Two in every five people in Canada will be diagnosed with cancer during their lifetime.  We want to empower our team to address this reality by providing them with information on detection and prevention, and an opportunity to support cancer-related research personally and through fundraising programs in our 250 stores across the country,” said GLENTEL President and CEO, Tom Skidmore. “We chose the Canadian Cancer Society because it is the most trusted voice and largest national funder of cancer research in Canada.”
